Quick answer: Across 161 SaaS product videos in the Motion Graphix portfolio library, the median length is 60 seconds and the average is 66 seconds. 83 percent run 90 seconds or less, 41 percent sit in the 30 to 60 second band and only 4 percent go past two minutes. Explainers cluster at 60 seconds; app demos and mobile app videos run slightly longer; cybersecurity and marketing-tech videos are the shortest.

How long is the typical SaaS explainer video?

Length band Share of videos
Under 30 seconds 6%
30 to 59 seconds 41%
60 to 89 seconds 35%
90 to 119 seconds 14%
120 seconds and over 4%

Median 60s, mean 66s, shortest 21s, longest 231s. Three quarters of everything we ship lands between 30 and 90 seconds, which matches what 71 percent of marketers say is the most effective window in our 2026 video marketing statistics roundup.

Which video format runs longest?

Format Videos Median Average Range
SaaS Explainer 23 60s 60s 35–110s
App Demo 8 64s 65s 46–100s
Mobile App 10 69s 63s 27–104s
Talking Head 11 61s 64s 32–116s
Live Action 4 40s 56s 34–108s

Explainers are the most disciplined format: a 60 second median with almost no outliers, because the job is one clear promise, not a feature tour. App demos and mobile app videos run a few seconds longer since they have to show real UI. Talking-head founder videos land around a minute as well. Live action is the widest range: short brand spots at 35 seconds, longer story pieces near two minutes.

Does length change by industry?

Industry Videos Median Average
Education 9 75s 93s
Legal tech 9 72s 94s
Fintech 18 70s 64s
HR tech 9 68s 71s
AI 9 61s 60s
Logistics 9 60s 69s
E-commerce 14 58s 60s
Healthcare 10 53s 55s
Cybersecurity 9 46s 46s
Marketing tech 9 46s 54s

Two patterns stand out. Education and legal tech run longest (medians above 70 seconds) because the products are workflow-heavy and buyers expect to see the process. Cybersecurity and marketing tech run shortest (medians around 46 seconds): those buyers are pitched constantly and reward videos that get to the point. Fintech sits in the middle at 70 seconds, long enough to build trust without turning into a compliance lecture.

What resolution and aspect ratio do SaaS videos ship in?

  • 65 percent of the library masters are 4K (3840 by 2160 or larger). The rest are 1080p, mostly older projects.
  • Every master in the library is 16:9 landscape. Vertical and square versions are cut from the master rather than shot separately, which is why our one-production system delivers every ratio from a single edit.

What should a SaaS team take from this?

  • Brief for 60 seconds unless you have a reason not to. That is where the market has settled and where completion rates hold up.
  • If you are in education, legal or HR tech, 75 to 90 seconds is normal and buyers will watch it. If you are in security or martech, cut to 45.
  • Demos need a little more room than explainers. Plan 60 to 75 seconds for an app demo and keep the explainer to a tight 60.
  • Master in 4K and 16:9 even if the first use is a 1080p landing page. Vertical cuts, ads and future re-use all come out cleaner.

Methodology

We exported duration, width and height for every video in the Motion Graphix hosting library on 4 September 2026 and removed showreels, testimonials, internal and process videos, leaving 161 client-facing SaaS product videos. Format labels come from how each video is categorised in our portfolio; industry labels come from the industry pages each video appears on (a video can appear in more than one industry). Medians are reported alongside averages because a handful of long story pieces pull the mean up. We will refresh the numbers as the library grows.
